HYROX Oslo runs 25–27 September 2026 at NOVA Spektrum in Lillestrøm. If you're reading this at the start of August, you have roughly eight weeks. That is not a lot — and it is enough, if you stop training randomly and start training for the race in front of you.
This plan assumes you already train 3–5 times a week and can run 5–8 km without stopping. If the race format itself is new to you, read our full HYROX Oslo guide and the 8 stations explained first — this article is only about how to spend the next eight weeks.
The one principle that matters
HYROX is not a running race and not a workout. It is running on tired legs, eight times. The people who blow up on race day trained the stations fresh and the runs fresh, then discovered that a 1 km run after a sled push is a different sport. Every week below is built around one idea: teach your body to run compromised.
Weeks 8–7: Base and honesty
Establish the schedule you'll actually keep: two strength sessions, two runs (one easy 40–60 min, one with intervals), and one HYROX-specific session. Use the specific session for an honest test — 1 km run, then a station effort, repeated 4 times. Note where you fall apart. That's your priority for the next six weeks, not the station you already like.
Weeks 6–5: Station skills and grip
Keep the weekly structure, but make the specific session technical. Sled push and pull reward technique and positioning far more than raw power — low hips, short steps, constant pressure. Practice farmers carries and wall balls under fatigue. Grip and shoulders give out before lungs for most first-timers, so stop avoiding the boring carries.
Weeks 4–3: Compromised running blocks
This is the heart of the plan. Grow the specific session into longer chains: run 1 km, hit a station, run again, 6–8 rounds. Run the intervals at your realistic race pace — the pace you could hold for 8 km, not 1 km. Your easy run stays easy; your strength sessions drop slightly in volume so you recover. If you can only prioritise one thing in these two weeks, prioritise this session.
Week 2: Dress rehearsal
One half-simulation: 4 rounds, race pacing, race breakfast, race kit. Nothing new after this — not shoes, not clothing, not gels. This is also the week to sort logistics: NOVA Spektrum is in Lillestrøm, an easy train ride from Oslo, and your start time dictates your whole morning.
Week 1: Taper, don't disappear
Cut volume roughly in half, keep a little intensity so you stay sharp — a few short race-pace efforts early in the week, then rest. You cannot gain fitness in the last seven days. You can absolutely lose the race here by cramming.
Race-day rules
Start slower than feels right — the first run decides nothing, the last three stations decide everything. Break the wall balls into planned sets before your arms make the decision for you. And wear kit you've already sweated through for eight weeks: no seams you haven't tested, no cotton soaking up 90 minutes of work. Our HYROX kit guide covers the details.
Eight weeks. One structure. See you in Lillestrøm.
